It was back in 2019 when I went to Shimla with my friends. It was one of the most memorable holidays I had spent. While we had been discussing going somewhere for some time, we hadn’t made any solid plans. The trip was planned kind of last minute and a few of our friends couldn’t make it for that reason, so it was just 3 of us who ended up going. We finalized our plans only 3 days before going and we were plenty lucky that everything ended up working out with the reservations and tickets. Especially since we went in December, which is the peak season for people to go to Shimla to see snow.
We had booked train tickets until halfway from where we were to catch a taxi to Shimla. The journey was filled with beautiful views and some periods of nausea. We passed out in the taxi as soon as we reached the mountains. The weather got a bit gloomy on our way and it started raining right as we were about to enter Shimla. None of the three of us had ever seen snowfall and we all wished to see it. I would keep checking the weather forecast to see if there would be snowfall when we would be in Shimla but alas, the forecast indicated only cold temperatures with no snow.
After struggling through the rain to reach our hotel, we checked into our room to freshen up and get warmed. We had gone for only 3 days so we decided not to waste any time and went out to explore the mall road even though it was still drizzling. Imagine our surprise when it starts snowing an hour later while we were in the middle of the market. It was our first time seeing snow and it was quite honestly a beautiful experience shared with the people who matter most.
The whole experience was incredible with all the locals coming out and dancing in the first snow of the season with loud music playing from different places. In only a matter of minutes, the whole area was covered in a light blanket of snow. Since we weren’t prepared for the sudden snow, the three of us quickly found a cosy bakery as the intensity of the snowfall increased. We sat there for a while, having some tea and enjoying the snow and then left to get back to the hotel. We ended up playing in the snow for a while before calling it a day.
The next day there was a thick layer of snow everywhere but it had already started to thaw. However, we luckily got to experience another round of snowfall that day. We went to visit some popular landmarks and a bunch of cafes and restaurants. The rest of the trip was fun but the highlight was the snowfall, which we had not even been expecting to see. The entire trip was pretty short and soon it was time to get back home.

As we were leaving, we looked back towards the mountains and there were clouds gathered over the top which soon started to snow again. An appropriate farewell for a bunch of tourists coming to experience snowfall together.
